Marshfield
The ancient market town of Marshfield is a designated conservation locality on the southern end of the Cotswolds and offers excellent shops and services. There are three historic pubs that provide excellent facilities of good food, fine wines and traditional ales to suit all tastes in a homely atmosphere. The ancient custom of the Marshfield Mummers, 'the old time paper boys', street theatre is performed every Boxing Day and attracts national and international interest.
Public transport can be taken to Bath, Bristol and Chippenham and the nearest railway stations are Bath & Chippenham, both 15-20 minutes away. Marshfield lies just 6 miles north east of Bath on the A420 between Bristol and Chippenham, accessible from junctions 17 & 18 of the M4 motorway only 5-15 minutes away.
The elegant Georgian city of Bath, designated by UNESCO as a world heritage site, is within easy access, only 15 minutes drive away while the historic maritime port of Bristol with its many visitor attractions is also easily accessible, 25 minutes by road.
The city of Bath hosts its well established Christmas Market and new in 2007 will be the 4 day food festival ‘Taste of Bath’ at the end of June.
National Trust properties at Dyrham, Lacock, Newark Park are nearby, while Stourhead and Tyntesfield are within a 30 mile radius.Other nearby attractions include Longleat House and Safari Park, Westonbirt Arboretum, Bowood House/Park, and many more noted gardens and historic houses.
The ancient stone circles of Stonehenge and Avebury, Glastonbury Abbey & Tor, Wells Cathedral, Cheddar Gorge, Cheltenham are just a few places within an hours drive and can be enjoyed for a days outing.
There is a choice of pleasant walks around Marshfield. Country footpaths and bridal ways are a common feature in the area and the Cotswold Way which runs around the village attracts many visitors to explore its scenic views.
Golf enthusiasts will be spoilt for choice as there are no less than 10 courses within easy reach, including Bowood, Castle Combe, Tracy Park, and Lansdown.
Bath Racecourse is 10 minutes away for flat racing and the famous Badminton & Gatcombe Horse trials are held nearby.
The well known Castle Combe motor racing circuit is only a 10 minute drive away.
